Making every day special
Starting “Big” school when your child reaches five years old can be a daunting time, that’s why at St. Margaret’s we’re here to hold their hand – and yours!
Our two Reception classes are beautiful, bright and spacious, equipped with everything a little learner needs to make every day special.
A separate outdoor area, specifically for our Early Years children, allows for exploring and building new friendships in a safe and fun environment within our seven acres of glorious grounds.

Curriculum
We encourage our pupils to do their best
In Reception, we focus on play-based learning and exploration to develop children's social, emotional, and communication skills. Our flexible curriculum adapts to each child's needs and interests. Our teachers use engaging techniques to nurture confident, enthusiastic readers.
Daily maths lessons with practical equipment build strong foundations. Art and craft activities align with topics, fostering imagination and creativity.
Teachers assess progress against Early Learning Goals (ELGs), often exceeding expectations. Integration with the school includes assemblies, play with older pupils, and termly performances. Parents can follow their child's progress through our shared online journal, Tapestry.
French
Reception children receive French lessons once a week with a specialist teacher. The language is introduced through learning to speak French words and phrases via games and songs.
Performing Arts
Children in Reception enjoy two Performing Arts lessons taught by our Director of Performing Arts every week. They engage with the performing arts through movement, storytelling, role-play, and sensory activities. As their skills develop, they explore key elements of performance by expressing themselves through drama, dance, music, and imaginative play. They also take part in a weekly assembly with the whole school and perform in nativity plays, our Easter concert and our end-of-year production.
Sports
Games and PE are taught three times a week. Skills and team games are taught, providing exercise, fun and the opportunity to meet and exceed the goals for Physical Activity in the EYFS expectations. The sporting highlight of the year is the School Sports Day held in June which everyone takes part in to represent their House.
Forest School
Our pupils in Reception have a wonderful opportunity to experience Forest School in our dedicated woodland area. During their Woodland Wanderers sessions they are able to explore their environment and learn more about it in focused activities.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR & CLUBS
Beyond the classroom
We go above and beyond to cultivate a lifelong love of learning through an array of enriching extracurricular activities. From exhilarating sports programs and captivating drama productions to vibrant art and music clubs, our students have endless opportunities to explore their passions.
Engaging school trips and visits from inspiring guests further broaden their horizons and spark their curiosity. Through these diverse experiences, we empower our pupils to embrace new challenges, develop essential skills, and will shape their educational journey and beyond.
