St Margaret’s Preparatory School Admissions
Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make.
We are always pleased to assist parents who would like to find out more about St. Margaret’s. Please contact our Admissions Manager, Kate Cryne, on 01787 273 050 or email@example.com to request a prospectus, or to ask any questions about our admissions process that you may have. We know that starting a new school or moving from one school to another, can sometimes be a daunting experience, so no question is insignificant.
The Admissions process is as follows:
Step One: Request a prospectus
To learn more about our school request a copy of our prospectus.
Step Two: Visit Us
Attend an open morning or arrange a private tour of the school with our Headteacher, Carolyn Moss.
At present we are able to offer socially distanced, personal tours after school, where you and your child can have a tour of our facilities and meet some of the staff. We also encourage prospective parents to book a space to come along to one of our open mornings.
Our next Open Morning is on Saturday 8th May. Please book your place here
Step Three: Complete and return a registration form
To apply for a place at St. Margaret’s Preparatory School please complete the registration form, which can be found here, and return it to us together with payment of a non-refundable registration fee of £75. The Admissions Manager will then contact you to confirm safe receipt of your child’s registration and to discuss the next steps.
Step Four: Invitation to attend a taster day/session
Currently, you and your child will be invited back (or virtually) to meet with their teacher.
When COVID-19 regulations allow us to, we will invite your child to come in for a taster day or taster session.
St. Margaret’s is a non-selective school so children do not sit an entrance exam, but for entry from Reception onwards, children will be given age-appropriate assessments during their taster day to enable staff to measure their ability in class so ensuring a smooth transition on entry and to allow us to help them to fulfil their potential.
- Early Years taster session – children over two years of age joining the Nursery, Transition and those joining Reception in the following Autumn Term, will be invited to spend the morning with us, usually between 09:30 am and 11:30 am.
- ‘Stay & Play’ session – for children who are too young to attend an Early Years taster session – i.e. children who have not yet had their second birthday – attendance at a ‘Stay & Play’ session will also allow us to offer a place in the nursery which can be taken up in due course.
- Taster Days for Year 1 to Year 6 pupils – children spend the whole school day with us and take part in normal class activities. Lunch will be provided. Children joining St. Margaret’s mid way through the year in one of our current Reception classes will join us for a full day too.
Step Five: Offer of a Place
Following a successful Taster Day or Session, the Headteacher will write to the prospective parents, officially offering their child a place at St. Margaret’s. Upon receipt of the admissions paperwork and the accompanying deposit to secure the place, the Admissions Manager will then contact the parents to discuss a start date for their child.
Children may join St. Margaret’s at any stage, if there are available places.
