Admissions Process

Admissions Process

Thank you for your interest in our school.

We know that choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make, and we would welcome the opportunity to help you.

We would be delighted to welcome you to the school with either a private tour from our Headteacher or for one of our upcoming open events. These offer the perfect way to find out more about our school and answer any questions you might have.

Please contact our Admissions Team on 01787 273 050 or admissions@stmargaretsprep.com to request a prospectus, or to ask any questions about our admissions process that you may have. We know that starting a new school or moving from one school to another, can sometimes be a daunting experience, so no question is insignificant.

Traditionally, the main points of entry are Nursery, Reception and Year 3, however, it may be possible for children to join in other year groups too when places arise. To get in touch and arrange a visit.

The Admissions process is as follows:

Step One: Request a prospectus

To learn more about our school request a copy of our prospectus or take a Virtual Tour of our school premises.

Step Two: Visit Us

Attend an open morning or arrange a private tour of the school with our Headteacher, Carolyn Moss.

We will be delighted to take you and your child on a tour of our facilities, to meet our pupils and staff. We also encourage prospective parents to book a space to come along to one of our open mornings here

Step Three: Complete and return a registration form

When you are ready to apply for a place at St. Margaret’s Preparatory School, please complete the registration form, which can be found here, and return it to us together with payment of a non-refundable registration fee of £75. The Admissions Manager will then contact you to confirm safe receipt of your child’s registration and to discuss the next steps.

Step Four: Invitation to attend a taster day/session

Your child will be invited to come in for a taster day or taster session.

Children do not sit an entrance exam, but for entry from Reception onwards, children will be given age-appropriate assessments during their taster day to enable staff to measure their ability in class so ensuring a smooth transition on entry and to allow us to help them to fulfil their potential.

  • Early Years taster session – children over two years of age joining the Nursery, Transition and those joining Reception in the following Autumn Term, will be invited to spend the morning with us, usually between 09:30 am and 11:30 am.
  • ‘Stay & Play’ session – for children who are too young to attend an Early Years taster session – i.e. children who have not yet had their second birthday – attendance at a ‘Stay & Play’ session will also allow us to offer a place in the nursery which can be taken up in due course.
  • Taster Days for Year 1 to Year 6 pupils – children spend the whole school day with us and take part in normal class activities. Lunch will be provided. Children joining St. Margaret’s mid way through the year in one of our current Reception classes will join us for a full day too.

Step Five: Offer of a Place

Following a successful Taster Day or Session, the Headteacher will write to you (the prospective parents), officially offering your child a place at St. Margaret’s. Upon receipt of the admissions paperwork and the accompanying deposit to secure the place, the Admissions Manager will then contact you to discuss a start date for your child.

Children may join St. Margaret’s at any stage, if there are available places.

We are currently taking registrations for Reception September 2023 places, please contact us to check availability.
