Relocating to North Essex

Relocating to North Essex

If you're relocating to our area and choosing St. Margaret's for your child, be assured of a warm welcome into our school family. We'll make the transition as easy as possible. You can schedule a private tour anytime, meet our Headteacher in person or online, and if there's availability, your child can have a Taster Day at St. Margaret's. They will be allocated a buddy from their year group to accompany them throughout the day, meeting teachers and engaging in extracurricular activities along the way.

North Essex offers the best of both worlds — historic rural villages and easy access to modern amenities, shopping centres, train stations, and major roads.

Here are some of our favourite places and spaces, things to get involved in and ideas for day trips within easy reach of our happy school:

LOCAL AREA

Living in rural Essex

Located at the junction of Essex/Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, our area offers a wide selection of wonderful senior schools, giving you plenty of options for your family home.

Gosfield is a small village with a strong community atmosphere. It features a community-run village shop, allotments, fetes, pantos, and a scarecrow trail. You can enjoy scenic walks, a nature reserve, a golf course, and a lake for watersports activities. Our pupils receive golf lessons at the nearby Gosfield Lake Golf Course and can explore cross-country routes along the course. Halstead, a traditional market town, offers a beautiful river walk with the River Colne flowing through its heart. The town is also home to independent boutique shops, family butchers and bakers, as well as cosy cafés and restaurants.

You'll find many charming, historical villages and small towns nearby, including Great Yeldham, Sible Hedingham, Castle Hedingham, Great Henny, Earls Colne, and Coggeshall. These places have a strong community vibe and offer a variety of activities. Finchingfield, known as the 'most photographed village in England,' has received awards for its picturesque setting. Great Bardfield, situated in a conservation area, boasts medieval buildings and a diverse range of houses and cottages along its streets.

Thanks to our impressive track record at the 11+ exams and scholarship achievements, we can help guide your child to the best senior school options. This includes the highly desirable Essex Grammar schools located in Colchester and Chelmsford.

The St Margaret’s Family

At St. Margaret's, our active Parents Association (PA) warmly welcomes you to our family. The PA plays a vital role in organising social and fundraising events like Bake Sales, a Family Funday, a Christmas market, the annual Summer Ball, and more.

There's always something happening for everyone, involving the whole family. We also have second-hand uniform sales and an extensive costume library for every parent.

For busy working parents who can't attend school assemblies and plays, we have Cognita Connect, our communications app. We post updates, photos, and video clips so you can celebrate your child's achievements and performances without missing out.
