We believe a rounded education should include a good arts education, introducing children to great literature, drama, the visual arts and music.
All aspects of the Arts are taken very seriously at St. Margaret’s. Artwork is displayed throughout the school in the corridors, classrooms and in the Art room. Music plays a huge part in school life with singing every week in assemblies, class music lessons with specialist teachers from the Nursery throughout the whole school, individual lessons for children from Year 2 with one of our 11 peripatetic music teachers. Children also take part in regular class assemblies where they perform to the whole school and parents, nativity plays as well as the school production which features every child in school on Speech Day.
We regard participation and success in the Arts as important as academic achievement, where every child’s creativity and performance is valued by staff, parents and pupils alike.
Music is a vital part of life at St. Margaret’s. From Nursery to Year 6, children throughout the school have music lessons in the school’s Music Room with our specialist Music Teachers.
In 2017 there were six music scholarships awarded to independent senior schools.
Art/Design & Technology
From the earliest years in The Nursery at St. Margaret’s through to Year 6 our children are encouraged to express their creativity in all kinds of media, from traditional paint and pencil through to collage, junk modelling and even fruit and vegetables!
Drama plays a large role in the life of St. Margaret’s. Plays are performed regularly by each class or year group in assemblies. Every year group will present at least one assembly every term to which parents and grandparents are invited to watch.
