When did you join St Margaret’s? August 2020

Where did you work before and what did you do?

I worked at Herington House Preparatory School as the Form 1 teacher and was also the lead for Maths and English. I also coached their Netball team.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

I love the fact that working with children means each day is different and making a positive impact on their learning journey is very rewarding.

If you hadn’t become a teacher, which career would you have chosen instead?

I would have pursued either a career with the Police Service (as this links to my degree) or as a Sports Coach.

How do you think your own school days have shaped your adult life?

I have very fond memories of school, especially Primary School. There are certainly aspects to my teaching style that comes from the excellent teachers I had.

How has school life changed in the last 10 years?

School life has become more about embracing individuals and creative ways which teachers can help all children to access their potential.

Which aspect of your job do you enjoy the most?

I love experiencing those ‘lightbulb moments’ when a child feels a sense of achievement in accomplishing something they’ve found challenging.

Who would you most like to have as a pupil, if you could pick anyone?

I’d love to teach my younger self. To see what type of student I was from the teacher’s perspective.

How do you relax away from work?

I play for a Netball Team in a local league and love long walks with my husband and two dogs, Riley and Luther.

Did you know? Please give us a fascinating fact about you

I was diagnosed with Diabetes aged 8. I haven’t let this stop me pursuing anything I have wanted to achieve, it has just meant I have needed to be more organised.
