PRE-PREP

The Pre-Prep Department aims to provide experience of all areas of the curriculum in a stimulating and exciting way. Great emphasis is put upon mastering basic number, reading and writing skills, using a wide range of teaching styles and structure schemes as a base for learning.  Children discover History, Geography and Science, largely through topic work. These subjects are enhanced by the use of a varied programme of outings and visits.

We continue to place an importance on social interaction and creative pursuits - the children have the chance to develop their creative interests through the use of specialist music teachers and plenty of art equipment - the messier the better! Sport is also taught by specialist staff. French is begun in Transition and continued throughout the school. It is taught by a specialist French teacher and involves much use of the spoken word with some writing.

There are computers in every classroom and ICT skills are enhanced by timetabled lessons in the Computer Suite.

During their time at St. Margaret's, we ask that each child reads at home to a parent every evening. From Year 1, homework is set in addition to reading, and includes tables and spellings. Our aim is to encourage the children to develop enquiring minds, and to have a great deal of fun along the way!
