The Great Land Yacht Challenge
24 August 2010At the end of the Summer Term, Year 6 pupils were able to race their land yachts in the Great Land Yacht Challenge. During the previous half term, they had used all their scientific and design & technology skills to design, build, test and adapt a land yacht made from recycled materials that would travel furthest when propelled by a desk fan. Many interesting and novel designs were created and on the last Tuesday of term, the pupils gathered in the hall for the final. The race was observed by Mrs Boyton Corbett and Mr Tim Ottridge, Managing Director UK from Cognita.
It was a close-run and exciting final with all the yachts performing well. In third place was Alex Moss, in second place was Tom McAllister and the convincing winner was Anthony Cheng. The prize for the best-looking yacht was awarded to Ben Dunster and all the remaining pupils also received prizes and certificates from Mr Ottridge. Well done to all of Year 6!
