Successful Sporting Term

26 March 2010

Once again, our teams have excelled themselves in all sports. See our results page for full details.

Building on Success
Having labelled last term as probably ‘the most successful ever’, the children have continued where they left off.  Although the weather put paid to some of the fixtures, where we have been able to compete, the results have been exceptionally good. The Under 11A Football Team completed their inter-school fixturesunbeaten (this on the  back of an undefeated Rugby Term). In addition they managed to qualify for the final stages of the ISA Regional event, going out in the quarter-finals. The strength in Sport has shown through with our U11B, C & D Football teams all performing really well against comparable sides from other schools.
The Under 8 and 9 Boys’ teams have continued to win the majority of their fixtures. Their matches have mainly been Rugby, although they managed to turn their hand to the occasional football match, too! The U8 Tag Rugby team enjoyed a hugely successful festival at Holmwood House School, winning all of their group stage matches against
Holmwood, Ipswich, Woodbridge Abbey & Barnardiston B. They were edged out in an exciting final, narrowly losing 7-6 to Barnardiston. The Girls’ teams have been making great progress and this has shown through in much improved matchplay. The U8 Girls won the Holmwood House Rally (please see the additional report). Well done to all the children !

ISA Cross Country

Despite some interesting marshalling in the U11 Girls and Boys races, all the children competed exceptionally well in Norfolk for the ISA Regional Cross Country at New Eccles Hall School. Tom Brown finished 1st out of 120 runners
in the Under 9’s and Juliet Stevenson and Tom Baslington taking their place in the National Event after
finishing 6th & 2nd respectively, again in fields of approximately 120 runners. On to the Nationals at
Princethorpe College, Rugby. Juliet finished 19th/80 and Tom 7th/80 thereby helping the Eastern
Counties U12 teams finish in 1st place for both Boys and Girls. A great achievement!

 Friends’ Cross Country
We recently attended the 9th Friends’ Cross Country. Always an exciting event, the children once again performed exceptionally. The Under 11 team finished 1st / 10 and the U9 team 3rd /10. A great end to the season.
Y3 Girls Netball
On Saturday 20th March the netball squad went to Holmwood House Prep School to play in the Y3 rally. It was a windy and wet but the conditions did not deter our girls. They played with skill and determination throughout and won every game, conceding only 2 goals in the whole competition and gaining many compliments from other schools’ parents and teachers along the way. The results went as follows:
WON   6 - 0 v Holmwood Prep Blue
WON   3 - 1 v Holmwood Prep Red
WON   9 – 1 v New Hall
WON   8 – 0 v Felsted
WON   7 – 0 v Elm Green

We are very proud of the girls – how they played and the sportsmanship they showed was wonderful.
