Reception Senses Morning

09 November 2011

Reception Senses Morning.

On Wednesday 9th November, Reception had their Senses Morning in the Lowe Hall.

There were five tables for the children to experience: tasting, smelling, touching, seeing and listening, and the children were split into five groups which rotated after approximately seven minutes.

On the tasting table the children tasted diluted orange juice, sugar in water, lemon juice in water, vinegar in water and salt in water. Some of the comments from the children regarding the taste were quite funny, especially when many children said the vinegar in water tasted like wine!

On the smelling table the children smelt curry powder, marmite, banana, vinegar, lemon juice and coffee. Interestingly, many children recognised the curry powder and said they liked a curry with rice.

On the touching table the children wore blindfolds and put their hands under a tea towel and into a bowl. They felt wet leaves, uncooked pasta, foil, water and balls of play dough. Some of the children thought the leaves felt like a salad or some rubbish and many of the children thought the foil felt like rubbish too.

On the seeing table the children were asked to follow a pattern on card using small bears or beads. Most of the children completed the patterns independently, and were happy to discuss the shapes and colour of the bears and beads, too.

On the listening table the children were asked to listen to the sounds of the instruments which were hidden b

ehind a box. The children were then able to have a go at making lots of noise themselves once they had guessed the sound.

All the children agreed they had a lovely time and we would all like to thank the parents for helping us on the day.
