History and Ethos
Founded in 1946 and set in beautiful, rural surroundings on the Essex/Suffolk border, the main house dates back to Elizabethan times and was originally the stable block for Gosfield Hall. Acres of parkland and forest adjoin the school grounds. St. Margaret's is situated between Sudbury and Braintree, and within easy reach of Colchester, Chelmsford, Cambridge and Bishops Stortford.
The Pursuit of Excellence begins with care. Care begins at home and St. Margaret's is a home from home.
Our cenral aim is to give all our pupils as many opportunities as possible for intellectual, physical and social growth within a structured, disciplined, yet enjoyable environment. We place great emphasis on the development of the child as a 'whole person'. At the same time we recognise the individuality and uniqueness of each pupil, and the ways in which pupils can enrich the school and each other through their differences.
We hope to foster integrity, creativity and the development of individual skills and talents. Enhancing the process of learning and the enjoyment of knowledge is integral to education at St. Margaret's. It is our fervent hope that in the fullness of time our pupils will show a co-operative and generous spirit as they strive successfully in the competitive society.
